Covid Disruption

Disruption: a disturbance or problem which interrupts an event, activity, or process.

The Covid Pandemic has been highly disruptive to all our lives.  However, disruption can be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, disruption can be defined as, “to break apart or alter to prevent normal or expected functioning.”  On the other side, disruption is defined as, “innovative or groundbreaking.”  Let us look at both.

Covid has altered our lives to “prevent normal or expected functioning.” It has forced all of us to break out of our everyday patterns and routines. Simple routines like waking up, getting our coffee, and driving to work were abruptly broken. This abrupt breaking of patterns can be very unsettling. Our habits and routines were established to create a feeling of safety and predictability. When these patterns are disrupted, we can feel untethered or even a bit lost.

The Covid Pandemic also brings with it the possibility of innovation. When things get abruptly disrupted, it offers us the opportunity to break out of our patterns and to potentially develop more healthy and useful patterns. One example of this is that many people could not imagine working from home before the pandemic. Some of these same people cannot now imagine going back to the office.

What patterns were interrupted in your life? What things are so vital that you do not want to let go of them? What things did you think were vital, but you found them surprisingly easy to let go of? As we slowly move back to the way things were, what do you choose to leave behind? One thing I know for sure is that unless you set a different course of action and commit to it, you will not end up where you want to be.

How has Covid been disruptive to your life? Would you like your life to just go back to how it was or are there things you would like to change? I am available to support you in building and creating the life you desire. Please contact me at www.BHCtherapy.com.
